Turbo Remanufacture VS Turbo Exchange.

What are the differences between having your turbo remanufactured vs ordering a remanufactured exchange turbo?

Which one is right for you, or your customer?

What are the Pro’s & Con’s?

 Exchange Turbo:

Exchange Turbochargers are Remanufactured turbochargers built by us from existing stock, it is not the actual turbo off the customers car. An exchange turbo scheme works well for the competent mechanic / workshop who fully understand the cause of the failure of the turbo on their customers vehicle and are confident that the straight turbo replacement is all that is required, it is a faster process and means the job can be turned around quickly for the customer. However if the actual cause of the turbo failure is not correctly identified (believe it or not turbos do not just fail for no reason) then the risk of the exchange turbocharger failing shortly after installing is quite high leaving you with 2 turbochargers that have failed due to the same cause, by the time we receive your returned original turbo you will likely have already fitted our exchange turbo to the vehicle and handed back to customer before we able to strip and inspect the turbo and make any comments as to why it failed. Our exchange turbo also comes with a surcharge, this means you will pay our surcharge fee upfront and once your original turbo is returned and deemed “serviceable” we will refund your surcharge, however there is a possibility that if the turbocharger returned is totally destroyed and deemed “unserviceable” the surcharge will not be refunded as the turbo purchase will be classed as “outright sale” and not “exchange” we then have to purchase turbo core to replenish our stock.

Remanufacture:

This option is the best option in our opinion for the following reason, the failed turbo from the engine is stripped  to inspect the damage then we work out the cost to remanufacture the turbo, at this point we can also see if there are any obvious causes of the turbo failure that we then relay back to you and point you in the direction of the root cause of failure to be rectified prior fitting the freshly remanufactured turbocharger, this greatly lessens the risk of damaging the freshly remanufactured turbocharger due to any missed underlying issues that caused the original turbo failure (believe it or not  turbochargers do not just fail for no reason), this option may not be as fast as the exchange turbo option meaning the job is not completed as quickly for the customer but  this can be worth while in the long run as there is no upfront surcharge cost (that you my not receive back) and you’re less likely to end up faced with the additional cost of a second failed turbo due to incorrect failure diagnosis. There are also cases where turbochargers are sometimes removed from vehicles after incorrect diagnosis and may not even need to be remanufactured but get replaced with an exchange turbo for no reason resulting in the same symptoms are still being present after fitting a new turbo,  using this option allows us to inform you if we think the turbo does not actually require a rebuild and hence save the cost of an un required turbo rebuild.
